One of my fondest memories when thinking about reading was when I found my genre of preference and reading became really enjoyable to me. As a child I had always been drawn to history and or anything related to it. Subjects like The Holocaust, The Great Depression, The Salem Witch Trials and The Revolutionary War always fascinated me. So, once I realized history was a topic I enjoyed, I began reading non-fictions such as the Diary of Anne Frank and Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
There are many reasons why history sparked my interest. Primarily because there is so much to learn about, especially things like important life lessons. Also, just seeing how much the world has changed through the centuries is amazing to me. Two of my favorite topics to read about is slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. I think the reason why is because learning about something so inhumane such as slavery and segregation is so mind boggling. However, knowing that people who went through these times of hardships and lived to tell about it with optimism for the future as well as, people who stood against these unethical acts of violence by starting movements is really inspiring to me.
